Rebuilding in the coastal counties of Texas requires special inspections from TDI Windstorm Inspection Program-approved engineers. These requirements limit products and manufacturers to only those approved by TDI, such as: siding materials, roofing, structural framing & connectors, storm-rated windows, storm-rated doors, and much more. Only approved products can be used and you are only covered by Texas Windstorm Insurance Association if you receive a WPI-8 signed by an approved engineer (indicating proper installation). This is the State's way of ensuring that structures along the coast are built to withstand high winds like we just saw from Hurricane Harvey! Improperly installed building elements can become wind-borne debris!
